About Racial + Cultural Identity

Racial identity is a complex part of each person that informs not only one’s sense of self, but also how they move through the world and are seen and treated by others. At A Good Place, we are committed to supporting people with difficulties that are influenced by their racial identity. BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) may experience unique challenges such as racism and oppression, intergenerational trauma, and internalized racism. These challenges may manifest or develop into issues like depression, trauma, low self-esteem, anxiety, relationship problems, and workplace stress. For people who identify as white, racial identity issues may present as evolving identity formation, anxiety, feelings of guilt, and relationship problems.

Our therapists are dedicated to providing anti-oppressive therapy to support you in navigating these complex challenges. Further, we know that there are other intersecting aspects of your identity that also shape your experience, including gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and disability. We aim to create a safe and empowering environment where you can process your experiences, and also pull from your unique individual and cultural strengths. We also recognize that you may come to therapy with other difficulties in mind, but through deeper exploration we can find how your racial identity is also impacting the presenting issue. Overall, we are committed to supporting you in a manner that is anti-racist, affirming, empowering, and compassionate.
