A Note from Abby:
We all have periods in our life when we look at our circumstances and wonder how we got to this place. The plans that we made and dreams that we had now seem impossible to reach or are no longer our dreams. This can be overwhelming and leave us feeling hopeless. How do we make the changes to improve our life when we aren’t even sure what those changes look like? Feeling stagnant or more simply, stuck, can leave us depressed and confused about options. Change can be great, but it can also seem out of reach, terrifying, stressful and daunting.
I understand. I am here to listen and together with you embrace your needs, thoughts, concerns, supporting you with collaboration, warmth and acceptance. I know and respect that you are the expert of your own life and will always honor this.
I have also had these periods of transition. After a career in television, and raising two daughters as a single parent, I recognized that I was at a crossroad. It led to a period of reflection, examining my strengths, passions and discovering what would be most fulfilling and exciting to me. Pursuing a career as a therapist embraced all of these attributes and was well worth the challenges it presented along the way. It is my great joy and privilege each day to work with my clients to understand their desires and together discover ways for them to lead fulfilling lives.
My Approach:
I use a pragmatic approach to understand and tackle the issues we face in a warm, cooperative environment. I support my clients in sharing their ideas and deepest emotions while working together to problem solve within a secure and unbiased space. As we are all unique individuals, I believe in a person-centered, humanistic philosophy, working differently with each client, respecting and celebrating each person’s life, their feelings and finding our way together to understand and make changes in a way that is comfortable for them. My training is in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which I use with a cognitive behavioral approach. Prior to A Good Place Therapy, I worked with individuals in psychotherapy at IPTAR, a psychoanalytic institute, and ICL in conjunction with Mt. Sinai Beth Israel Hospital with patients struggling with mental illness who had recently been released from inpatient hospital care. I look forward to working with you on a path of discovery to understand past hurts, current stressors and towards future dreams.
Clients that I work with include those struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, career challenges, issues related to parenting and maternal mental health, life transitions, interpersonal conflicts, family dynamics, stressors around school and college, among others.
