A note from Laura:
When faced with one of life’s many obstacles, I believe the first important step is to reach out for support. We may need help to move through a transitional time in our lives, to work through a rough patch, or to build skills to better manage a crisis. Examining issues through a CBT lens allows us to identity thoughts and ideas that can cause us distress. Once negative thoughts are identified, CBT enables us to challenge ingrained thought patterns and make adjustments to achieve an improved outlook on life. I believe all individuals have strengths. Through therapy, we will work together to capitalize on these strengths and develop a healthier sense of self.
I have held a variety of roles that allowed me to support individuals with a wide range of issues. Working as a teacher for almost a decade, I worked extensively with students, parents, and families. I often helped them work through everything from academic and behavioral issues to transitions within families including death, health issues, job loss, relocation, expanding families, divorce, and remarriage.
I also spent time counseling adolescents and young adults in both a college counseling center and a fifty-five and better community center, where I worked on issues such as:
Family and Friend Estrangement
Health Crisis
Grief
Managing anxiety
Depression
Low self-esteem
Family issues
Self-harming behavior
Premarital, marriages, remarriages, and divorce
Break-ups
Peer-pressure and academic pressure
Difficult transitions
Through my work, clients can identify rough patches, work through issues, and resolve them so that they can gain strength and lead a healthier lifestyle. I am also able to assist individuals and couples to begin the next step of their lives, which may involve a new relationship, remarriage, or blending families.
My goal as your therapist is to help you navigate challenging moments and/or periods of transition in the healthiest and most supportive way possible. Together, we can identify your strengths and work towards improving the quality of your life.
